Outpatient Treatment Is the Right Next Step for Many People After Higher Levels of Care

Outpatient treatment is designed for adults who need ongoing support while living at home and managing everyday responsibilities. Many clients begin outpatient care after completing medical detox, residential rehab, a partial hospitalization program, or an intensive outpatient program, while others start outpatient treatment after a clinical assessment determines it meets their current needs.

Choosing the right level of care depends on more than where you are in recovery. Our physicians and licensed clinicians evaluate your substance use history, mental health, physical health, home environment, and recovery goals before recommending outpatient treatment. If another level of care would better support your recovery, we’ll explain our recommendation and help you begin treatment within the appropriate program.

Because outpatient treatment is part of our full continuum of addiction treatment, many clients remain with the same care team as they move between levels of care. That continuity gives your physicians and therapists a deeper understanding of your progress, allowing them to adjust your care as your needs change without requiring you to start over with a new provider.

Common Questions About Outpatient Program Near Sixteen Mile Stand, OH

  • What is the difference between intensive outpatient and outpatient?

The main difference is the amount of treatment you receive each week. IOP typically involves 9 to 15 hours of therapy across multiple days, while outpatient treatment usually includes one to two appointments totaling approximately one to three hours per week for clients who have achieved greater stability but still benefit from ongoing clinical care.

  • Can I start outpatient treatment without completing residential rehab?

Yes. Outpatient treatment can be the first level of care if a clinical assessment shows you can recover safely without 24-hour supervision or the higher level of support provided by PHP or IOP. If your clinical assessment indicates you need a higher level of care, your physicians will recommend the most appropriate program before transitioning to outpatient.

  • Does insurance cover outpatient addiction treatment?

Yes. Many PPO insurance plans provide benefits for outpatient addiction treatment, including out-of-network coverage, although benefits vary by plan. Before you begin treatment, our admissions team verifies your insurance benefits and explains your coverage, deductibles, and expected out-of-pocket costs.

  • Can I work and keep up with family responsibilities during outpatient treatment?

Yes. Outpatient treatment is designed for adults who can safely live at home while continuing to work, care for family, and manage other responsibilities. Your appointment schedule is based on your clinical needs and coordinated to fit alongside those commitments whenever possible.

  • How long does an outpatient treatment program usually last?

Outpatient treatment continues for as long as it provides meaningful clinical benefit and remains the appropriate level of care. Your physicians and therapists regularly evaluate your progress and determine when you’re ready to transition to aftercare or another stage of recovery.
