Our clinical team offers the highest quality evidence-based alcohol and drug addiction treatment approach in the Midwest.
Physician-Managed Treatment
The Ridge offers a broad spectrum of data-driven therapeutic approaches for people seeking treatment for alcohol and/or substance use disorder. We work with you to create individualized plans based on who you are, what interests you, and your goals for recovery. We focus on developing coping skills and strategies to handle the obstacles and challenges you’ll face on the road to recovery. We’re patient-centered, which means your strengths, passions, and abilities drive the content of your treatment plan.
Family Participation
Research by the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) indicates that active family involvement and education on topics related to addiction, recovery, and mental health improve treatment outcomes.
Our commitment to active family involvement in the treatment process sets us apart from other alcohol and substance use disorder treatment programs. On average, families engage in eight (8) educational and family therapy sessions. During these sessions, families learn tools and strategies they can use to support their loved one on the road to recovery.
Addiction Education
Educational classes and workshops are critical elements of our treatment programs. We teach patients about the science underlying their disordered use of alcohol and substances. When a person with addiction problems learns about the maladaptive physiological mechanisms that drive the patterns of thought and behavior associated with addiction, it makes a difference: they take a step back from self-criticism and self-blame, give themselves license to address their issues, and feel empowered with the agency to restore physiological balance and create real change in their lives.
Robust Aftercare Program
The Ridge offers 52 weeks of structured aftercare to anyone who completes our residential treatment program or our professionals program. Aftercare group meetings occur once a week in our outpatient office close to downtown Cincinnati. Other services such as individual therapy sessions (in person or virtual) and lab work are also available to residential program alumni. We encourage clients to attend all 52 weeks of aftercare to strengthen their recovery, prevent relapse, and maintain a sober, healthy lifestyle.
An Emphasis on Nutrition
Years of alcohol and substance misuse leave many of our patients malnourished and disconnected from what it means – and feels like – to eat three healthy meals a day. To help restore health and balance, our on-staff chefs prepare fresh meals that provide restorative nutrition and supports overall health and recovery. Participants in our residential programs participate in a weekly cooking class to learn how to prepare healthy options at home, so they can incorporate their new eating habits into their aftercare/relapse prevention strategies.
Individualized Treatment Plans at The Ridge
It’s important to reiterate that no two treatment plans at The Ridge are the same – because no two people at The Ridge are the same. Here’s how we create your plan:
1. Full Evaluation
We begin with a complete biopsychosocial assessment. We learn everything we can about you. We gather details on your medical history, your alcohol and/or substance use history, your psychiatric history – if applicable – and all the factors that led to your decision to enter treatment. That includes your family history and current relationship dynamic. Everything matters, and everything counts. This initial information forms the foundation of your treatment plan – but that’s just the beginning.
2. Observation
Our clinicians watch how you respond to treatment. What helps one person may not help another, and we take the time to learn what helps you. We pay attention to how you interact with recovery peers and counselors. We note how you respond to traditional treatments, such as process groups and individual counseling. We determine whether complementary modalities – such as yoga, meditation, and recreation – resonate with you.
3. Adapt and Reinforce
Once we have a solid idea of what you need to achieve your goals – for treatment, recovery, and life – we adjust your plan to maximize your strengths and leverage the unique qualities you bring to treatment.
As you change, your plan changes along with you. Things that helped at the beginning may no longer help after a couple of weeks, and some things that didn’t work in the beginning may become essential as time passes. No one can predict how exactly how you’ll respond to specific treatment elements ahead of time. That’s why all our plans are adaptable. Nothing is set in stone, except our commitment to your long-term recovery.
Treatment plans at The Ridge include a combination of the following therapies and treatments:
Individual Counseling: You participate in regular weekly sessions with an addiction counselor and/or psychiatrist.
Group Counseling: You participate in multiple group sessions every day. Groups may be educational or therapeutic. Topics include – but are not limited to – everything from relapse prevention and trigger management to the science of addiction and strategies for effective communication.
Family Counseling: We invite your family to participate in your treatment and recovery process. Understanding your family dynamic – and having your loved ones learn what treatment is all about – is an important part of recovery at The Ridge.
Complementary Modalities: At The Ridge, complementary activities are a core component of our approach to treatment. We believe getting outside, enjoying nature, and learning how to have fun without alcohol and drugs are important parts of your recovery. Complementary supports include – but are not limited to – yoga, meditation, walking, and general exercise.
Music and Art Therapy: Music and art offer people in recovery opportunities to explore and express emotions that are difficult to understand with logic and rational thinking alone. Music and art therapy help relieve stress, improve emotional intelligence, and break down barriers between patients, peers, and therapists. These benefits foster honest and open communication, which facilitates the healing and recovery process.
