Partial Hospitalization Program, Flint, OH
If you live in Flint and need more support for alcohol or drug use than weekly counseling provides, getting that help does not necessarily mean leaving home for residential treatment. Our Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) provides structured daytime care nearby in Westerville, so you can receive a higher level of support and return home each evening.
PHP is available through our addiction treatment center near Flint and can address substance use alongside co-occurring mental health concerns that affect your recovery. You receive structured outpatient care while continuing to live in your home and stay connected to your life outside treatment.
You do not need to decide whether PHP is the right level of care before you contact us. Our clinical team will assess your needs and recommend the level of treatment that is appropriate for you.
How We Determine if PHP Is the Right Level of Care
PHP can be the right starting point if you need substantial support for addiction but can safely continue living at home. Before recommending it, our clinical team looks at the severity and pattern of your substance use, withdrawal risk, physical and mental health, previous treatment, daily functioning, and the support available to you at home.
For someone coming to us from Flint, the decision is based on what you need clinically, not simply which program is most convenient. If you are medically stable but need more structure than our Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) or weekly outpatient counseling provides, PHP at our Westerville center may be appropriate. If you need supervised withdrawal or 24-hour support, we will recommend detox or residential treatment instead and explain the next step.
The same assessment also helps shape your treatment once you begin. We look at the mental health symptoms, family or home circumstances, and other challenges that could affect your recovery so your care reflects what is actually happening in your life.
What a Typical Week in PHP Looks Like
PHP is a real daytime commitment. At Ridge Outpatient Columbus, programming runs Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., giving you several hours of structured treatment before you return home each afternoon. Your week can include group therapy, individual sessions, recovery skills work, and other care included in your treatment plan.
If you live around the Park Road area or nearby north Columbus communities, the Westerville office is close enough to make repeated weekday travel more practical. That matters with PHP because you are coming to Olde Worthington Road throughout the week, not just for an occasional appointment.
The daytime schedule can also affect how you manage work and other responsibilities. You may need to adjust your work hours, take leave, or make other arrangements while you are in PHP. We recommend the level of care you need clinically first, then help you understand what that commitment will look like in your regular week.

Treating Addiction and Mental Health Together
Alcohol or drug use does not always happen on its own. You may also be dealing with anxiety, depression, trauma, or other mental health symptoms that make it harder to manage stress, cravings, and situations that put your recovery at risk. During PHP, we look at how these concerns affect each other rather than treating your substance use as a separate problem.
At our outpatient center near the Polaris area, we coordinate your addiction treatment and mental health care within the same treatment plan. Depending on your needs, the program can include individual and group therapy, psychiatric support, trauma-informed care, medication management, and dual diagnosis treatment for co-occurring substance use and mental health conditions. Your clinicians can adjust these parts of your care as they learn more about your symptoms and how you respond to treatment.
For adults coming from Flint and communities along the Lazelle Road corridor, this means you can receive co-occurring mental health support as part of PHP at the same Westerville location. If anxiety, depression, trauma, or another mental health concern is affecting your recovery, your treatment team can address it alongside the substance use rather than leaving you to manage it separately.
Putting Recovery Skills Into Practice at Home
What you learn in PHP has to work when you leave treatment for the day. You might have a productive session in Westerville, then notice an old routine coming back to mind as you head home toward Flint Road and Park Road. Instead of waiting until your next session to deal with it, you can use the coping strategies and plans you have been working on in treatment.
Some days will be more difficult than others. You might spend time with family near Flint Park when cravings become difficult or find that an unstructured evening at home is more challenging than you expected. When you come back to treatment, you can talk through what happened with your clinical team, look at what helped and what did not, and decide whether your plan needs to change.
That back-and-forth between treatment and everyday life is an important part of PHP. You can try new skills in your regular routine in Flint, then come back to your team for help with the situations that are still difficult.
How We Decide When You Are Ready to Step Down
Moving out of PHP is not about reaching a certain date on the calendar. Your treatment team looks at how you are doing in treatment and how well you are managing more independence outside of it. We consider changes in substance use, cravings, mental health symptoms, relapse risk, and how consistently you are using the skills you have been working on.
Progress can look different for each person. You may be handling difficult situations more effectively, following your recovery plan with less support, or finding that challenges between treatment days are becoming more manageable. When those changes are consistent, your team may decide that you no longer need the structure of PHP and recommend stepping down to IOP or another level of outpatient care.
Stepping down means spending less time in structured treatment at our Westerville center and more time in your regular routine at home in Flint. We continue to review how you are doing as that balance changes so your level of support can change with your needs.

Common Questions About Our Partial Hospitalization Program Near Flint, OH
-
How long will I need to stay in PHP?
Most clients participate in PHP for about two to six weeks, but you do not step down simply because you have reached a certain week. Your treatment team reviews your substance use, cravings, mental health symptoms, stability, coping skills, and how well you are managing outside treatment. When you can safely maintain progress with less structure, we may recommend IOP, outpatient treatment, or another appropriate next step.
-
What happens if I drink or use drugs while I am in PHP?
Tell your treatment team what happened so we can reassess what you need. We look at the substance used, withdrawal and medical risks, changes in your mental health, what contributed to the return to use, and whether you can still participate safely in outpatient treatment. We may adjust your PHP treatment plan or recommend detox or residential care if you now need supervised withdrawal or 24-hour support.
-
Can my family be involved while I am in PHP?
Yes. Family counseling can be part of PHP when it supports your treatment goals and is clinically appropriate. Your treatment team may involve a spouse, partner, parent, or another supportive family member to work on communication, boundaries, healthier routines, and how they can support your recovery when you return home. Your family’s role depends on your treatment needs, clinical recommendations, and privacy.
-
Will my insurance cover PHP at Ridge Outpatient Columbus?
It depends on your specific plan and benefits. Ridge primarily works with major out-of-network PPO plans, and our admissions team verifies your benefits before treatment so you can understand what your plan covers and your expected out-of-pocket cost. Ridge Outpatient Columbus does not accept Medicare or Medicaid.
-
Do I need a referral to start PHP?
Usually, no. You can contact our admissions team directly to begin the process. Before you enter PHP, we complete an assessment to determine whether outpatient treatment is appropriate and whether PHP provides the level of support you need. Some insurance plans may require a referral or prior authorization, which our admissions team can identify when verifying your benefits.
