PHP provides intensive treatment while giving you opportunities to practice recovery in the situations where it eventually has to work.

Our partial hospitalization program provides about 25 to 30 hours of treatment each week, including individual and group therapy, psychiatric support, and recovery-focused care. Between treatment days, clients can begin applying what they are learning to everyday life. Challenges with mood, cravings, relationships, or routines can then be brought back into treatment, giving the clinical team a clearer picture of where additional support is needed.

PHP provides intensive daytime treatment for clients who need more support than IOP can provide but do not require residential care around the clock.

Full Clinical Days Provide More Support Than Standard Outpatient Care

PHP requires a meaningful commitment to treatment during the week. Programming generally runs Monday through Friday and provides about 25 to 30 hours of care each week. Most days run from 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., while Tuesday programming extends from 1:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Those hours are used for more than attending a series of groups. Individual and group therapy, psychiatric support, relapse-prevention work, and opportunities to practice recovery skills address different needs throughout the week. Frequent clinical contact also gives the team opportunities to follow changes in cravings, mood, treatment engagement, and how clients are responding to the strategies they are practicing.

That intensity is particularly valuable during a period when weekly therapy may leave too much time between appointments. Instead of waiting several days to address a setback or emerging concern, clients return to a structured clinical setting throughout the week. This provides substantial clinical support without requiring clients to remain in treatment around the clock.

The Ridge includes optional family programming during its extended Tuesday schedule, where education and family work can address communication, boundaries, codependency, and ways to support recovery without taking responsibility for it. Families can also discuss challenges occurring at home so the clinical team can consider them as treatment progresses.

Family involvement is based on the client’s consent and what the clinical team considers appropriate for the situation. The goal is not to make relatives responsible for monitoring recovery between treatment days. Instead, family members can develop a clearer understanding of how to respond to setbacks, support healthier routines, and recognize when a concern should be brought back to the treatment team.

Progress in PHP Determines When Less Intensive Care Is Appropriate

Finishing PHP is not simply a matter of reaching a certain number of weeks. Although many clients participate for about two to six weeks, the appropriate length depends on clinical progress and how well they are managing with greater independence. The team considers what happens both during treatment and outside program hours when deciding whether the same level of structure is still needed.

When that progress supports greater independence, clients may transition to IOP, outpatient treatment, or aftercare rather than ending support abruptly. The next step is based on the amount of structure still needed, not simply completing PHP on a predetermined timeline. We also offer a 52-week aftercare program for continued recovery support as formal treatment becomes less intensive.
