Aftercare Planning Starts Before You Return Home

The challenges waiting after treatment are different for every client. A Montgomery professional may be returning to a demanding role where stress and business obligations previously contributed to substance use. Someone else may be returning to strained family relationships, an unsupportive home environment, or routines that make alcohol or drugs easier to access. These circumstances help shape the recovery plan before residential treatment ends.

The care team considers where the client is returning, which situations could threaten progress, and what support will be available when those situations occur. The plan may address ongoing therapy or medical care, recovery meetings, family support, sober living, or other community resources when appropriate. For a client managing co-occurring mental health concerns, the plan may also account for continued psychiatric or behavioral health care after residential treatment.

The goal is to leave with more than a discharge date and general advice to stay connected. Clients should know which supports they will use, where they will turn when difficulties arise, and what parts of everyday life require particular attention after returning home. That gives aftercare a starting point based on the client’s actual recovery environment rather than waiting for a problem to reveal what was missing.

Common Questions About Aftercare and Alumni Support Near Montgomery, OH

  • Do I have to complete residential treatment at The Ridge to receive 52 weeks of aftercare?

Yes, eligible clients who complete our residential program receive the full 52-week Recovery for Life aftercare benefit. Clients who discharge early or complete another level of care may receive a different continuing-care plan based on their circumstances and clinical needs.

  • Can I join The Ridge’s aftercare program if I completed treatment somewhere else?

Our 52-week Recovery for Life program is intended for eligible clients who complete residential treatment with us. If you completed treatment elsewhere, our clinical team can assess your current substance use, mental health, relapse risk, and recovery environment to recommend the appropriate level of care or outside support.

  • Do I have to attend aftercare in person?

No, some aftercare services can be provided remotely, but weekly aftercare groups are held at our Milford location. Your clinical needs, stability, relapse risk, distance, and the type of service determine when telehealth or in-person support is appropriate.

  • Can my family get support even if they are not enrolled in treatment?

Yes, family members can access support without becoming treatment clients themselves. We offer virtual family support and other family programming to help with boundaries, communication, trust, and recovery-related concerns while protecting the client’s confidential treatment information.

  • What happens after the 52 weeks of formal aftercare end?

Structured Recovery for Life aftercare ends after 52 weeks, but graduates can remain connected through our alumni community. Before aftercare ends, the clinical team reviews your progress and ongoing needs to determine whether outpatient care, medical or psychiatric follow-up, community support, or another service should continue.
