- Withdrawal and seizure historyPast withdrawal seizures, DTs, or complicated detoxes. This shapes how the medical team plans the first days.

- Relevant medical history and lab workLiver function, cardiac issues, or other conditions the medical team should know about before admission.
- Insurance carrier and member IDThe carrier and member ID are enough to start. Our admissions team verifies benefits so you don’t have to.

03 How Referring Providers Stay Involved During Residential Treatment
How The Ridge keeps referring providers part of the treatment team
Referring providers are part of the treatment team here, not a name on an intake form. We reach out as soon as your patient is admitted so you can share anything that will help the work. From there, you decide how often you hear from us and whether updates come by phone or email. Discharge planning starts early, so your patient comes back to your care with a clear plan.
- Contact from our team at admission
- Updates by phone or email, your choice
- Update frequency set by you
- Direct access to your patient’s primary therapist
- A Client Liaison as a consistent contact

04 What If Your Patient Isn’t Ready for Residential Treatment?
Ambivalence at the point of referral is normal, and it doesn’t mean the referral is premature. Many of our clients are high-functioning professionals who have kept their careers and families intact, which makes it easy for them to question whether residential care is really necessary.
What we see in the first few days is consistent. Once the noise of daily life quiets down and clients are around peers facing the same thing, the resistance often softens. We don’t pressure anyone into buying in. If a full stay feels like too big an ask, the 72-hour evaluation is a shorter first step. If you’re still weighing whether residential is warranted at all, these are the signs a client needs a higher level of care.
05 Referring a Patient to Rehab FAQ
-
How quickly can a patient be admitted after I make a referral?
It can be fast, in some cases within an hour of the call. When a patient is ready, timing matters, and our admissions team is set up to move quickly without cutting corners on a thorough, safe intake. For planned admissions, we coordinate timing with you and your patient. Admissions is available 24/7 at (513) 457-7963. -
Do I need to send medical records before admission?
No. A verbal clinical summary on the first call gives our admissions team enough to begin. You can send clinical documentation, treatment history, or anything else you think will help after the referral is started. We welcome it, because the more context our clinical team has, the better the first days of treatment go. -
What if my patient’s insurance doesn’t cover residential treatment?
Make the referral and let us check. Our admissions team verifies benefits directly, and patients often have more coverage than they assume, including out-of-network benefits on PPO plans. The Ridge works with major PPO carriers and does not accept Medicare or Medicaid. If cost is still a concern, our team talks it through with your patient as part of planning the right level of care. -
Will The Ridge contact my patient directly?
Yes. After you share the clinical background and insurance information, our admissions team reaches out to your patient to give an overview of the program, talk through cost, and complete a pre-admission assessment. That keeps the logistics off your plate, so you can stay focused on the clinical relationship and on helping your patient say yes. -
Can I refer a patient who has been through residential treatment before?
Yes. A prior treatment episode doesn’t disqualify anyone. It tells our clinical team what worked and what didn’t. Relapse is part of the clinical course of alcohol use disorder for many people: NIDA puts relapse rates for substance use disorders at 40 to 60 percent, similar to other chronic illnesses. Any treatment history you can share helps us plan around it. -
Can I refer a physician or another licensed healthcare professional?
Yes. The Ridge is an approved treatment provider for the Ohio Physicians Health Program (OPHP). For a physician or other licensed clinician, how they enter treatment matters for their license, and voluntary treatment through the right channel keeps the matter on the health track. Here’s how the OPHP process works.
