What Is the Difference Between Inpatient Rehab and PHP?
Medically reviewed by The Ridge Ohio clinical team · Updated
Inpatient rehab means you live at the facility full-time, typically 30–45 days, with 24/7 medical and clinical support. A Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) provides the same intensive therapy, usually 5–6 hours per day five days a week, but you sleep off-site. The right level of care depends on whether you need medical detox, your home environment, and how much structure you need to stay on track.
01 What Does Each Program Include?
Inpatient Rehab
24/7 on-site supervision and medical support. Includes medical detox if needed, individual therapy, group therapy, psychiatric services, structured daily schedule, meals, and on-campus living. The most intensive level of care.
Partial Hospitalization (PHP)
Same clinical intensity as inpatient — during the day. At The Ridge Ohio, PHP runs Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 2:30 PM, with Tuesday extending to 7:00 PM including optional family programming. You sleep off-site each night.
