Getting help for addiction does not always mean putting work, family, and the rest of your life on hold. If you live in Flint and can safely stay home, our evening IOP in nearby Westerville gives you structured treatment while letting you keep much of your normal daytime routine.
Through our addiction treatment center near Flint, you come to treatment several evenings each week and return home afterward. That means you are working on your recovery while still dealing with the stress, responsibilities, and relationships that are part of your everyday life.
You also do not have to know whether IOP is the right program before you call. Tell us what’s been happening, and our clinical team will determine whether IOP provides enough support or whether another level of care would be a better fit.
How We Determine if IOP Is Enough Support
IOP can be a good starting point when you need more help than weekly counseling but do not need treatment throughout most of the day. Before recommending it, our clinical team looks at your alcohol or drug use, withdrawal risk, physical and mental health, previous treatment, daily functioning, and the support you have at home.
For someone coming to us from Flint, making the short trip to our Westerville center does not automatically mean IOP is the right choice. You also need to be medically stable and able to manage safely outside treatment between sessions. If you need more structure than IOP provides, we may recommend our Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP). If you need supervised withdrawal or 24-hour care, detox or residential treatment may need to come first.
We also look at what could make recovery harder once you return to your regular routine in the Flint and Worthington area. Work demands, mental health symptoms, family circumstances, previous relapses, and the support available between sessions can all affect whether IOP gives you enough structure to move forward safely.
How IOP Fits Around Work and Other Responsibilities
IOP is designed to give you meaningful treatment without taking over the entire workday. At Ridge Outpatient Columbus, sessions are held in the evening and generally last about three hours, three to five nights each week. Your exact treatment nights depend on your clinical plan and the current program schedule.
That evening schedule can make treatment more manageable if you work near Polaris Parkway, elsewhere in north Columbus, or manage responsibilities at home before coming to Westerville. You still need to protect several evenings each week for treatment, so IOP is a real commitment even when you can continue working during the day.
We do not assume the same schedule will work for everyone. If work, childcare, transportation, or another responsibility could make regular attendance difficult, talk with us about it during the admissions process. We can explain the schedule you would commit to so you can decide what arrangements to make before treatment starts.

What Happens During Your IOP Sessions
Your IOP time isn’t built around one type of therapy. Your treatment plan can include group and individual therapy, relapse prevention work, family counseling, and medication management when appropriate. If anxiety, depression, trauma, or another mental health concern is affecting your recovery, that can be addressed alongside your alcohol or drug use rather than treated as a separate issue.
At our Olde Worthington Road office, your clinicians use these sessions to address the problems most relevant to your recovery. In one session, you might focus on what is driving cravings or repeated substance use. In another, you may work on managing difficult emotions, changing relationship patterns, or preparing for situations where you have struggled before.
Because you return home after each session, the work stays connected to what is actually happening in your life outside our Westerville treatment center. What you are dealing with between sessions can become part of the conversation when you come back, giving your team a clearer picture of where you need help and what should receive more attention in treatment
Using More Independence Without Losing Clinical Support
Most of your week in IOP happens outside the treatment center. You might finish a stressful workday at the JPMorgan Chase McCoy Center, attend an evening session in Westerville, and then head home to Flint, where family responsibilities are still waiting for you. On another day, you might be heading through the Flint Station area after a difficult day and notice the urge to fall back into an old drinking routine.
These are the kinds of situations you can discuss when you return to treatment. Maybe stress from work followed you home, a craving caught you off guard, or you handled a difficult situation differently than you wanted to. At your next session, you and your clinical team can look at what happened, what helped, and what you could try differently the next time.
With no IOP sessions on weekends, you also have time to reconnect with the parts of your life that matter outside treatment. That might mean spending Saturday with your children at Flint Park, catching up on things at home, or simply having more time with family. If stress, cravings, or other challenges come up over the weekend, you can bring those experiences back to your clinical team when treatment resumes.
How We Decide When Your Level of Care Needs to Change
IOP is not meant to stay the same simply because the original plan called for a certain number of weeks. As treatment continues, your clinical team looks at whether substance use is decreasing, cravings are becoming more manageable, mental health symptoms are more stable, and you are able to follow your recovery plan with less support. We also track whether you attend consistently and manage safely while you are away from treatment.
If you are doing well with that independence, you may reach a point where three to five evenings of treatment each week are no longer necessary. Your team may recommend moving into standard outpatient counseling while you continue rebuilding your life in Flint and the surrounding Worthington area. Aftercare and alumni support can provide another layer of connection as formal treatment becomes less frequent.
Progress does not always move in one direction. If your substance use increases, your mental health becomes less stable, or staying safe between sessions becomes harder, we will reassess whether IOP is still enough. That may mean increasing support through PHP or recommending detox or residential treatment if you need withdrawal management or 24-hour care. The goal is to give you the level of support you need now, rather than keeping you in IOP simply because that is where you started.
Getting to IOP From Flint
When you are coming to IOP several evenings each week, the trip to treatment becomes part of your regular routine. Depending on where you start in Flint, you can travel toward Sancus Boulevard and Polaris Parkway, then use Orion Place to reach Olde Worthington Road. If you are starting farther north, Lazelle Road provides another connection toward Sancus Boulevard and the Polaris area.
If you do not drive, COTA Line 102 serves the Sancus Boulevard and Polaris Parkway corridor, including stops that may help with part of the trip from the Flint area. The bus does not take you directly to our office, so you will need to plan how you will cover the remaining distance to Olde Worthington Road.
Because IOP requires you to make this trip several times each week, it is worth working out your transportation before treatment starts. Whether you drive from the Flint Road and Park Road area, use public transit, or arrange a ride, knowing how you will get to and from evening sessions can make regular attendance easier to plan around the rest of your week.

Common Questions About Our Intensive Outpatient Program Near Flint, OH
-
How long will I need to stay in IOP?
Most clients participate in IOP for about 8 to 12 weeks, but you do not finish simply because you have reached a certain week. Your therapist and case manager review your progress, clinical needs, treatment goals, and how you are managing with the current amount of support. When you are stable enough to need less structure, your team may recommend standard outpatient care or aftercare rather than continuing IOP.
-
Can I start IOP if I have never been to rehab before?
Yes. You do not have to complete residential treatment or PHP before starting IOP. We first assess your substance use, withdrawal risk, mental health, home situation, and whether you can safely manage between treatment sessions. If IOP gives you enough structure, you can start there. If you need supervised withdrawal, more intensive daytime treatment, or 24-hour support, we will recommend a higher level of care instead.
-
Do I need a referral from a doctor or therapist to start IOP?
No. You can contact Ridge directly without a referral. Our admissions team will arrange the required assessment, which is what determines whether IOP is appropriate for you. If you have a doctor, therapist, or other provider involved in your care, we can coordinate with them as needed and with your permission.
-
Can my family be involved while I am in IOP?
Yes. Family involvement can be part of IOP when it supports your treatment plan. Your case manager can coordinate family sessions that address issues such as communication, boundaries, codependency, and how loved ones can support your recovery while you continue living at home. How your family participates depends on your treatment needs, your home circumstances, and what will support your recovery.
-
Will my insurance cover IOP at Ridge Outpatient Columbus?
Coverage depends on your specific plan and out-of-network benefits. Ridge Outpatient Columbus primarily works with major PPO plans, and our admissions team verifies your benefits before treatment so you can understand what your plan covers and what you may be responsible for paying. Ridge Outpatient Columbus does not accept Medicare or Medicaid.
